Zen Sand Garden Project
Hi JJR Community,

I am trying to DIY this Zen sand garden project:
https://vimeo.com/124882379
You can see more videos inside the artist's gallery.

I will use a Neodymium magnet underneath a glass surface, and sand + metal ball on the top of the surface. Here are my questions:
1) Does the iBoard kit work in horizontal orientation?
2) Can I use longer arms for iBoard bot to make a bigger table?

Thanks!!

RE: Zen Sand Garden Project
Hi, That Zen garden is quite cool!
Regarding the iboardbot horizontal position: It will work in the horizontal plane as well. You will have to lay it down and replace the pen header for the magnet. Keep in mind you will have to drag a metal ball so the resistance to the movement will be increased.
And yes, you can use longer arms. For that, you will have to change some parameters in the iboardbot CODE
PS: this is a great idea, to modify the iboarbot for this purpose...
Keep us updated!

RE: Zen Sand Garden Project
You know what? I am going to make my own ZEN SAND GARDEN.
I just bought the metal ball and the neodymium magnet. I will use my own iboardbot (just ordered another one) to create the X-Y moving robot.
Things I bought:
- Glass (3mm thick) to support the sand
- neodymium magnet
- 25mm Chrome Steel Ball (maybe a little bit large, but lets see...)
- Sand! (Pure White Aquarium Sand)
- I will build the wooden box to contain the iboardbot and design some support legs.
I guess this it is going to be quite "straightforward"!

There are some Mandalas/Maze drawings that will fit like a glove what I am looking for :-DDDD

Fantastic! I am exploring couple of hardware options and will start building one next month.

25mm ball would be nice - I also want a larger ball for faster drawing. In the original zen sand garden, it takes 4+ hours for one drawing with smaller ball.

I have made some progress on this iBoardbot´s hack. Take a look to this thread:
